(HJHS-AMERICORPS) – A person once said, ”Where flowers bloom so does hope.” The Hopwood Junior High School AmeriCorps team planted 20 yellow bell flowers on campus on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, as a part of their goal to not only educate students in the classroom, but teach them the value of service beyond it. Last year, the team planted over 20 palm trees and flame trees at the school’s multi purpose field with the Marianas Young Professionals to provide shade to spectators during events. The students said it best when I asked why they thought we were planting flowers: “to help the environment and beautify our school.” The Department of Agriculture donated the flowers and Victor Cabrera’s agriculture class allowed the tutees and students to use their equipment.
