PRESS Release TO ALL PSS EMPLOYEES/PARENTS AND GUARDIANS:
From the Office of the Commissioner of Education
It has been a week now since the island of Saipan was devastated by Typhoon Soudelor. We
hope for the very best as you and your families begin to recover and restore the damages
incurred at your homes. On behalf of the Board of Education and the PSS Key Management, I
would like to extend to all of you our HOPE, COURAGE and the BEST during this difficult
time.
The school leadership has been very busy these past few days with the key management and
many Central Office Program Managers conducting preliminary damage assessments in all
schools and centers. In our consultation last Thursday, we have determined that it will not be
feasible for the schools and the Head Start centers and Early Intervention on Saipan to begin
classes on August 25th as approved by the Board of Education.
As a result of this, the report date for certified faculty and staff (190 day employees only) on
Saipan has been changed from August 17 to AUGUST 24TH.
The start date of the school year for Saipan schools and centers will be announced
sometime next week pending the final facilities damage assessment reports.
Classes on Rota and Tinian will resume as approved by the Board of Education.
Please note that administrative services at all PSS schools and Central Office are expected to be
fully operational beginning tomorrow, August 10.
If you have any questions on this matter, please contact your immediate supervisor.
